The Falcon Inn is unique. Situated on the edge of the village green at Arncliffe, it attracts walkers, fishermen, shooting parties and naturalists from all over the world.

Beer - Timothy Taylors Best Bitter - is still served straight from the barrel, poured from a porcelain jug. Upstairs are five letting rooms: a single, a twin and three doubles, two of them en-suite. Residents have free access to four miles of fly fishing on the nearby River Skirfare.

Good, wholesome, tasty food is cooked on the Aga and served at lunchtimes and in the evenings (it's best to call ahead to check evening availability).

The dining room and sitting room are available for private functions. You can find out more on www.thefalconinn.com or call 01756 770205

An illustrated talk by Ben Stephenson who first travelled to Zanskar in 1993 and has made 11 visits to the region since. The purpose of his visits have evolved from an academic study of the rocks to ski traverses across the Himalaya & mountaineering, to the foundation of the first Himalayan ski school in 1998 for the local people.

Zanskar is in the northwest Indian Himalaya, part of Ladakh, often referred to as Little Tibet. It is one of the highest and coldest inhabited places on Earth. Ten thousand people, mainly Buddhists, some Muslims, live in isolated villages, in valley altitudes of 3,500m, with minus 30 celsius temperatures in winter and deep snow seven months of the year.

Proceeds divided between Amerdale Hall and Zanskar ski school.
