Foxup and Cosh
At the very top of the dale, Foxup means upstream with the foxes.
This is where the River Skirfare begins its journey through the dale to join the Wharfe. Until quite recently there were three farms in Foxup, only one remains. The hamlet is only a quarter of a mile from Halton Gill and they once shared both chapel and school.
The farm at Cosh is now once more inhabited after many years of lying empty.

FOXUP (not Fox Up) . The North Yorkshire County Council has put the incorrect name on the signpost in Halton Gill. I’ve pointed this out to them twice but it looks as though I shall have to change the sign myself. Actually, the distance from Halton Gill to Bridge Farm, Foxup is 3/4 of a mile and to Upper Foxup, 1 mile. There are six families living in the tiny hamlet of Foxup and Cosh with nine chidren/young people. The highest dwelling is Cosh farmhouse at 420m (1378ft).

hi rachael thanks for reply its great to hear that your mum and dad still live @ the farmhouse.
i wonder if they remember the time that the old tractor i was driving when we used to come to cosh and help with the haymaking on your farm crashed on the little bridge over the stream !!! i was still on it as it was hanging over the edge and gar come flying in the new tractor from another field @ the back of the farm!!! to get me off before it went over the edge. i shouted to everyone to jump of the trailer but did`nt jump off myself stupid me?? very scarey moment in my life i will never forget.
you will have to ask them if they can remember about it !!
i recently made a video of are time at cosh in the 70`s and i put it on youtube!!! here is the link if you want to view it and show it to your mum and dad

Hi there ,my sister used to live at cosh ( Gillian) . Such a beautiful place with lots of memories for me . I recentely read a home improvement magazine with Cosh in it , although I didn’t want my memories dashing I had to read it. Wow the new owners have done it proud . Must say I loved staying there and going back to basics , but wouldn’t mind a stay there now with all the mod cons .
